MacDowell
Colony – 1911
The MacDowell Colony, located in Peterborough, New Hampshire, was Alpha Chi Omega’s first altruistic project and upholds our tradition of excellence in the fine arts. Founded in 1907 by Mrs. Edward MacDowell (Zeta, New England Conservatory of Music), established writers, painters, sculptors, photographers and composers are eligible to study here. Colony fellows work in studios scattered throughout the six hundred acres of field and woods. One of the studios, Star Studio, was built in 1911 with funds from the Fraternity and has been maintained ever since that time.
Professionals who have studied here include Leonard Bernstein, Willa Cather, Thorton Wilder and James Baldwin.
Each year the MacDowell Colony receives financial assistance to maintain Alpha Chi’s Star Studio and fund scholarships for artists who could not otherwise reside at the Colony. |
Easter
Seal Society –
1947
Alpha Chi Omega’s association with the Easter Seal Society began in 1947. Our obligation to this organization has been met through a bequest from member Florence Staiger
Lonn. and through members responded to society’s need at the time
for aid to victims of cerebral palsy.
Victims
of Domestic Violence – 1992
Responding
to the needs of the nineties, members adopted Victims of Domestic
Violence as its national philanthropy. Opening out hearts to Victims
of Domestic Violence. Alpha Chi Omega's 1992 National Convention, delegates voted to adopt the Support of Victims of Domestic Violence as our national altruistic project.

Epsilon Lambda's Contributions
Epsilon Lambda hosts Casino Night every fall to raise money for [ The Alpha Chi Omega Foundation]
& [ Victims Of Domestic Violence.] Our chapter works to support our local women's shelter
here in Arlington, Texas. Last year Epsilon Lambda raised over $18,000. Not only do Alpha
Chi's at The University of Texas in Arlington work hard to make Casino Night such a big success, but also support the philanthropies of other sororities
& fraternities on campus. Last year, our Panhellenic Council has also started a Library Philanthropy Project to help the library with its
story time project. Our girls had a lot of fun helping out. |
